I cant believe it’s 2025 and this trope still exists…
Turns out the best shooters in the world, measurably, are competition shooters by leaps and bounds.
Not a surprise there… and it shouldn’t be a surprise that those subconscious skill sets translate well to Self-Defense and Law-Enforcement engagements.
This is why myself (and many other “Professional Competitors”) are contracted to teach SWAT and Team Operators… and not some youtube gear reviewer or reddit blogger.
They also dont want to hear about someone elses’ tactics…they are a Team, They have Tactics. They want to increase Raw Skill that allows them to Perform Better- who better to learn from than Subject Matter Professionals in Performance?
I saw this post from a local Instructor Gino Gilliotti of 1st IN LLC that was simple and hit all the points, without getting into the weeds about tactics and gear, etc.
What about the above points could be refuted? So I wanted to bring him on to talk about it.
I met Gino as a Student of mine coming to learn competition skills, and loved his attitude of using it to simply increase his shooting metrics, processing, accountability, etc . He used that to better understand the “Shooting is Shooting” attitude i preach to simply learn how to be a better shooter, therefore a better Coach.
After seeing him monthly for a Match and Training over a full season, I clearly saw an already good shooter become a Great shooter. That is what Competition Promotes.
Im glad the Performance Style training is not only starting to become more popular with every instructor, but the evidence is clear that it WORKS
